Gerry w 2 #76 Posted August 29, 2011 Thanks Ed No swamp donkeys were lost during the storm was there Gerry? Not that I know of!! There was a girl swept off a bridge and is presumed dead. Why do folks take stupid risks?? That said I ventured out before the roads got covered to get extra gas for the geni and had to drive through some crazy crap! Looks like they need to release some dams, open them up, or their going to burst. They are e-vacing the down stream towns now! 6 to 13 inches of rain fell last count
truckin88 104 #77 Posted August 29, 2011 still on gene power for the house, power out since 5am
MikesRJ 558 #78 Posted August 29, 2011 And all I got to show for it is two extensive power outages and a tree come apart in the front yard. The tree branches took the cable and phone lines, as well as the flagpole, down with them. Since I have internet phone the hurricane Gods decided just to knock the cable wire to the ground without breaking it. I thank God it didn't come down on the house. Spent the afternoon cutting it up into nice firewood lengths while waiting for the power to come back on. Oh, and I got my 45 y/o generator running as well. Needed a good carburetor cleaning and the commutator sanded a little.
Coadster32 793 #79 Posted August 29, 2011 We made out ok on the coast of CT. Alot of older and rotted trees down, and some uprooted from the saturated ground. We had power the whole time, but about 1/2 of my town still doesn't. Definatly glad it weakend before it got here, (uneventful is good). Beautiful weather behind the storm I have to say. Oh.. and I didn't hear a peep from the garage door, the 854 had done it's job. :thumbs2:
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #81 Posted August 29, 2011 Thank you all for the generator offers. At about 5:00pm yesterday we decided to move into the camper. While it only has 12v, it has running hot & cold water and a radio. We were inside with lights playing card games and others to keep us occupied. We went to sleep around 10:00 and woke up with electricity. Woo Hoo! Now to look for sales on Generators!
shorts 182 #82 Posted August 29, 2011 good to hear that everyone came thru with flying colors and relatively minor damage. Big storms can be no fun, my standing response is letsget some whiskey and go to the coast and watch the storm, but after growing up in the tornado belt and then living thru Andrew and several other hurricanes while running a standby power shop in central florida and seeing and responding to the damage first hand, I'm happy to sit here in michigan and watch on the weather channel :thumbs2:
Gerry w 2 #83 Posted August 29, 2011 Kathy and I are fine thanks for asking Darren. Woke this AM to no power still and a lake in front of the house in the fields across the road. Our house is up on top of a hill so we are fine, but the three roads into the home are washed away. The river was so high it was almost over the train trestles! We have been watching videos of some of Vermont's covered bridges washing away. We now have power back, and hoping the water recedes fast enough so the roads get fixed and I can get to work tomorrow! I snowmobile out of North Springfield, and have a shed up there w/ two sleds in it. :thumbs2:
mattd860 162 #85 Posted August 29, 2011 Glad to hear people are safe and sound. There was no damage at my house but we lost power at 4am Sunday before the storm even hit. According to the power company my whole town of Salem ct is out if power and there is no estimate of power restoration yet although some people are saying friday or Saturday. My biggest fear is gas supply. There is no gas at the stations in a 20 mile radius. I was able to find some after 45 minutes of driving so im good .... for now. Should be able to keep the generator going till the weekend.
rmaynard 16,290 #86 Posted August 30, 2011 Well, I am back on again. Had very little wind damage or rain, but we lost electricity early Sunday morning and just got it back around 4:00 PM today. I have a 5500 watt generator that I fired up and shared with my 85 year old next door neighbors. So we kept the refrigerators going, and had some lights. Since I am on a well, we had no water but what was in the tank. We were prepared with several cases of bottled water, and I have a 100 gallon rain barrel that was full. All-in-all, we didn't have it bad.
chesbaycruiser 83 #87 Posted August 30, 2011 7:55 pm Tuesday....I'm very grateful for the power my neighbor is sharing with me from his generator, but I have to admit...I'm REALLY looking forward to not hearing half a dozen generators run 24/7!!! :thumbs2:

The drone gets to be annoying, but somehow it is soothing as well. Hang in there.
