magnum 14 hp oil level?

Recommended Posts

fourwheels0

ok i just changed the oil on my 14 hp magnum (in a 1988 414-8 speed)

and the level on the dipstick is about 1/4 inch below the low mark.

i put 2 quarts in as that is what i read it is supposed to take.

as far as i know the dip stick is original.

why would it be that low?.

would this engine take 2 1/4 quarts like the 16hp magnum?.

p.s the end of the dipstick has a bend in it. is that normal?

Mine has approx a 45 degree angle on the dip stock to get it into the oil pan. I put 2 quarts in and then just filled it until it reached the mark on top.

i'll top off the oil till it hits the full mark.

thanks.

The 1988 414-8 oil capacity is 2-1/2 quarts in the operator manual and the Wheel Horse lubrication charts.

garry your right.

i topped it off till the full mark and it was 2 1/2 quarts exactly.

thanks.

the kohler site said 2 quarts for the 14 hp magnum. i guess it's a misprint.

Just a thought here - the single cylinder Magnums are splash lubed. I have a couple of hills on my property that I have to go up and down - not terribly steep, but steep enough. I run all three of my Magnums (two 12's and a 10) about 1/4-3/8" over the full mark to give the reservoir a little more room. I don't seem to have any problems with blowing oil out anywhere, and it gives me a little peace of mind. JMHO.... :banghead:
