Brrly1 1,146 #1 Posted August 15, 2011 I am talking about Mobilazation. Everything was going good, life was looking up. Then one day its comes to an abrupt hault. Like hitting the air brakes. With all of the guys who have been battling other aspects of life you just don't think about it until it happens to you. All I can do is sit here at the computer or in the recliner either that or go back to bed. Just no Fun at all. Can't go to the garage it's a disater area, I guess I need to talk to some of the guys to see if I can get a ramp or something built so I could get a wheelchair down. They gave me a script for a chair but basically unusable in the house with no access to the outside. I am basically stuck for now it just wants to make you pull your hair out or scream which ever comes first. :D

CasualObserver 3,411 #5 Posted August 15, 2011 Sorry to hear that John... can you at least make it out to a lawn or deck chair and have a beverage outside? Fresh air and sunshine... also not to be taken for granted. Here's to recovery being closer to 8 than 10 of those weeks! If you get really bored, you could always go to the beginning of the forum and catch back up on some old stuff.... remember... nearly 5 years of posts here now! Lots of good topics/discussions (and people) have come and gone in that time.

illinilefttackle 399 #7 Posted August 15, 2011 BRRLY- You are singing to the choir here- I know exactly what youre talking about-in Spades. I was a young stud, hunted Bear with a switch, living life to its fullest- when a Semi-Tanker truck carrying liquid sugar came veering into my lane unexpectedly------I was driving a new Ford convertible-it ended up about the size of a VW bug after the crash-60mph+60mph= bad news. I died twice on the way to the ER. Thru the Grace of God- I lived- but my body was broken up badly. Some of it could not be repaired. Take your misfortune and turn it around-"How bad good it have been-I could have been handicapped or disfigured for life" Count your blessings and "FIND A WAY" to do what you want-figure out how to move around-you can do it. Good Luck! Anytime you need a pep talk-Email me-Thanks-Al :woohoo:

rmaynard 16,289 #11 Posted August 15, 2011 I was away for about two weeks did i miss something? What happened? From what I've been told, he had a work related accident when a road cutting saw tried to tackle him and throw him off the back of a truck. I'm sure John will elaborate if he wishes to. I wish I were closer. I'd take a couple of days off and come over and build a temporary ramp.
kloe0699 12 #12 Posted August 15, 2011 Sorry to hear that John. I also am laid up for a while, I just had 2 disks in my back fused together. Between the hospital bed in my living room and a walker I am bored stiff! Today is the first time I have been able to sit long enough to get on my computer. The worst part so far has been watching my neighbor mow my yard with his craftsman. I wish you good luck and a speedy recovery. Kevin
C-Series14 15 #13 Posted August 16, 2011 Take it easy and keep thinking positive, John... I know I am not dealing with a situation like yours but I am going in for epidural injections next week for my back and sciatica problems. I will be sweating like a pig laying on the table while they stick me! It kind of scares me when people are poking around in my back... :D

Brrly1 1,146 #17 Posted August 16, 2011 Thank you guys for all the Well wishes. I myself am hoping to be up soon and moving but to be truthfully honest it is not looking like I will be up doing any dancing soon. It's kind of surprising as I thought I would be up walking in about a week or so of down time. Wrong answer! I still cannot stand or even come close to standing. Mike I haven't had the shots or anything like what you are having done but have had a successful back surgery L5-S1 has been fused to the other vertabrae down there about 14 yrs back. I appreciate all of the emails that everyone has sent. As everyone previous to me has said This is one 'United family" for sure. It means alot to be apart of this family. The guys you meet at meet & greets, show, swap meets and just anything to do with this Fantastic hobby that we are all a part ofare terrific. Always have a handshake and a smile ready an waitin'. What more could a guy ask for. :D

boovuc 1,090 #20 Posted August 18, 2011 Hang in there, John and do what the doc(s) say. I've had two disks fused in 1993 and blew the disk just above them 10 years later. (That couldn't be fused). It sucks not being mobile. Time goes slowwwww! And it gets harder to mend as we get older! For Kevin...........just walk. Walk everyday! Walk hills after you get your legs about you. The best thing you can do after back surgery?????? WALK EVERYDAY! BooVuc Mill Hall, PA

clintonnut 126 #24 Posted August 18, 2011 Know exactly how you feel. The first week all you can think is what could I have done differently. This is about that time you will start to go insane like me because every day is the same damn thing. Everything you wish you could do is impossible. I cant work, sell clinton parts, socialize, go to my favorite show which I'm now missing 2 years in a row and worst of all i have to stay inside all fricken day just like you. You might beat me on full recovery, we will see. I have already fallen twice which set me back a few days. I just stopped counting the days. Get well asap Charlie
shorts 182 #25 Posted August 18, 2011 I've found that when I'm stuck in a chair that one with removable leg supports and arm rests work best in tight areas, the other necessity in most homes is the removal of the interior doors, this adds 2 inches of clearance to manuver thru doorways.
