MaineDad 85 #1 Posted August 7, 2011 Guys: When my Granddad passed, he left me a bunch of tools including antique wood working tools, a set of International Harvester wrenches and much more. Included with these tools is this pictured below. I'm guessing it's some type of sharpener. Anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance...
Operator 7 #2 Posted August 7, 2011 :woohoo: Looks like a grinding wheel put onto a wooden handle to me I'll bet someone used it to sharpen scickle [however it's spelled] mower blades, maybe by putting in a drill. What ya think of that idea?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,523 #3 Posted August 7, 2011 Does the stone spin in the wooden handle? If so my guess is you chuck the metal shaft in an electric drill to drive the stone and grind 1/2 of 2 sickle mower sections at once. I have a hand-cranked Prairie grinding fixture/machine with the same stone. Do a Google search for Prairie Grinder. Found this http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1459/3037.pdf Garry
MaineDad 85 #4 Posted August 7, 2011 It does spin. Thanks.
KC9KAS 4,741 #5 Posted August 7, 2011 The stone and the wooden handle were not designed to be together. The stone IS for sharpening mowing machine (sickle blades) sections.
