please HELP with Eska

I got a 74 seacruiser eska model 1930b with a tecumseh engine #643-19b and need help setting the points, my online search says i need some special tools? I had it running, cleaned carb and points and now it wont start. I can get spark, and some puffs of smoke but the timing must be off, wont even start with injected gas. Is there a way to tell btdc without this special tool I read about? Help :woohoo:
