Won't charge at all or not much? :woohoo:

I had a 1985 416-8 and the charging system was based on engine RPM's

(Seperate curcuit)

Lights would get dim @ low RPM's... also the gauge was a amp Gauge instead of voltage.

Mine looked like it was not charging much unless i had it running at max RPM's

Although mine had a Kohler engine as well...

Save Old Iron

at full engine RPM's

stator AC VOLTS should be greater than 30 VAC

the output of the voltage rectifier regulator should be at or above 13 ish DC volts. Approximately 14.5 volts DC from the rectifier is considered optimal. Anything above 13.5 will charge the battery - albeit at a slower rate.

check all the connections from stator to rectifier unit - these are usually corroded on older tractors.

can whlvr

when my kohler would not charge it was the ground for the rectifier,i ran a separate wire from the bolts of the rectifier to a good ground and that fixed it
