rydogg 186 #1 Posted July 6, 2011 Has anyone had an issue with a virus called XP Security 2012, I picked it up somewhere and am unable to use my computer unless I bypass my operating system I am currently running my computer from a Knoppix Linux disk in the cd rom. I use firefox for internet exploring and have a linksys wireless g router, my security system is Mcafee and microsoft security essentials I think. What I need is a good registry cleaner and malware / spyware remover. My OS is windows XP home. Any suggestions on how to fix it or should I just wipe it clean and install windows 7? DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #2 Posted July 6, 2011 Try downloading malwarebytes (free version) and installing it in safe mode. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ It sounds like one I've removed from several computers recently.
rydogg 186 #3 Posted July 6, 2011 I finally got rid of it I tried everything including malwarebytes but the virus even came up in safe mode. I had to download a new version of malwarebytes to get rid of it since it would not allow me to use my previously downloaded version I needed to shutdown the computer and start malwarebytes right away before the virus had a chance to flood the system. My restore to a previous day program is now corrupt so I can't use that. It's a good thing I had my NCWHEC shortcut on my desktop cause if I tried to open IE or firefox directly the virus would take control of the page and not allow me search for anything NCWHEC gave me enough time to find the malwarebytes download and get it going before the virus figured out what was going on. Now if someone can suggest a good registry cleaner I should be good to go. NCWHEC (north central wheel horse events club) Worst part of the whole ordeal is I was researching Lawnboy push mowers when I heard my computer ramp up to full speed :woohoo:

stevasaurus 23,274 #5 Posted July 6, 2011 Ryan..Jason, I am confused here...is the virus related to the NCWHEC site???
rydogg 186 #6 Posted July 6, 2011 NO viruses at NCWHEC I had to use the NCWHEC shortcut on my desktop to open up an internet page so I could google the malware antivirus software download, the virus was taking over my IE and firefox as soon as I opened them so I was unable to search for a malware remover.
