Tornado last night

Kelly

I was working on the 195 when the neighbor stopped to BS, and said that a tornado watch was in effect, about then the sky's got dark, so I picked up, and all hell broke loose, I could not see 10' out the window, it was raining so hard, and the high winds, about then the wife called she was at her Moms, and said a storm was coming, too late I said, I peeked out a back window to see a big chunk of a 100+ year old maple had came down, and as soon as it started it stopped with just rain, lasted 15 min. the tree landed on top of the kids bike rack with the new bikes this year, and part of it on the shed but was not a direct hit or it would be gone, the tree out back that came up roots and all, was 30"+ in diam. and all of 70' tall it missed the barn and went in the empty field, we fared ok, the neighbors a few mile from here lost there house, another a barn, a few roofs even one off a school, lots of trees down power out all over, but this is nothing to what they had down south, so I feel blessed, I can deal with what I have here, not great pictures they do not do justice to how big this chunk of tree is, it's cut up now, I spent all morning running a chainsaw, still have the big tree to cut up, but it can wait I'm too old to work this hard, and it's near 90 deg here now.

Looks like you were pretty lucky Kelly. We had about 4" of rain and now share that heat with you on this side of the lake. Sometimes I like the snow better. :hide:

Glad you are all safe and unharmed. We've had some storms over here in Ohio too. One blew in and out in a matter of minutes last night. Lightning so close I thought it was in the room with me. Just a couple small branches fell out on the ground but nothing to cut up. We have been lucky too.

Glad to see that you didn't have more property damage than you did. Tornado's are fickle things. They will miss your house, take out the kids bikes, but leave the Wheel Horse safe and sound.

Seriously though, I'm glad you didn't have more damage.

Well 99% is cleaned up, saw dust that you can't rake for crap, and about 2 full cord of wood stacked, and I didn't cut the big tree, the bikes are A OK as was all Ryans pedal tractors that were under the pile, the red pedal tractor is a JD we bought last year and was red, he has a nice collection of them going, I think we are going for ICE CREAM in a bit

Wow, Glad there was no major damage Kelly. That storm went just south of me. just a lot of thunder, lightning, and some rain, but nothing major. Glad you got it all cleaned up and back to normal.

Glad that you are OK. Tornado's are one of the things that scare me the most. We had 7 this past week on the heels of the one that hit Joplin MO.

The one that hit Joplin left it looking like a war zone. My brother went down there Friday to deliver some supplies and said it was probably the most horrific site he's seen or will ever seen. Here is a link to some before and after pictures of Joplin:

Mike Bettes of the Weather Channel was in our area last Wednesday, May 25, as there were numerous tornadoes in our area. Fortunately there were only a few EF1s and most stayed in the rural areas, though Sedalia, Missouri got hit.

I found this account from an ER doctor from St. Johns Hospital in Joplin. He was on duty the evening of May 22 when the hospital took a direct hit from the Joplin tornado. Harrowing first hand account.
