hotrodmerc 1 #1 Posted May 21, 2011 What year did the connecting rod length change on the K 181. I noticed the bore is different also.
TT-(Moderator) 1,128 #2 Posted May 21, 2011 I know that the earlier Kohler rod/piston ass'y is different than the Mahle rod/piston ass'y, but I wasn't aware of a change in rod length. I'm not even sure if there's a difference in rod length between those two - unless it's because of pin height. As far as I know, the K181 & M8 Magnum bore size has remained the same since "day one". hotrodmerc 1 #3 Posted May 21, 2011 I have an older engine that is .010 over and has a longer rod and a smaller bore than a newer standard bore engine.
TT-(Moderator) 1,128 #4 Posted May 21, 2011 Are you sure it's not a K161?
hotrodmerc 1 #5 Posted May 21, 2011 I'm going to do some investigating.
hotrodmerc 1 #6 Posted May 22, 2011 After some investigating the known k181 has the hole in the crank. The unknown engine has no hole in the crank. The unknown engine has the longer connecting rod and smaller note than the k181.
