sscotsman 141 #1 Posted May 16, 2011 After I replace the crank case breather filter, I plan to drive the tractor to the car wash..(basically the same way she was brought to my house this Spring, in the back of the pickup truck) and hose her down, just to do an overall wash.. probably spray some de-greaser first in the oily areas, let it soak for a bit, then rinse.. I know I need to cover: 1. Carb 2. Crankcase breather opening. (how to cover that?) 3. muffler. 4. shifter boot. any other "senistive" areas I should pay attention to? its not *super* high pressure water, like a pressure washer would be it..its just a regular "wand" type car wash..but still, I dont want water to go where it shouldnt be..any suggestions? after that, I will probably just do driveway washes with the garden hose..but I thought maybe one "heavy duty" wash at the car wash might be in order.. thanks, Scot
can whlvr 991 #2 Posted May 17, 2011 i usually dont cover anything,i just dont blast too much towards the sensitive areas, just rinse with not too much pressure,i try too do it before an oil change and then it gets a real good greasing and wipe off extra grease,i run them pretty good after or put in the sun to dry
Ken B 3,116 #3 Posted May 17, 2011 You should also keep an eye out for the EPA dude. They don't like when people degrease in the self serve car washes. :hide:

W9JAB 156 #5 Posted May 17, 2011 Cleaning/degreasing can be a real pain. As they say in the Army if you want the job done fast send the laziest guy do it, (that would be me). Now if you are planning to paint in the near future do not do this. With that out of the way, I have been using tire and wheel foam for years under the hood of my cars, in the wheel wells, interior panels, I use the stuff to clean up old radios, and my tractor. Just spray it anywhere that has a buildup of dirt or grease, engine tires wheels steering shaft and gear, just any place you need cleaned. Let it soak and forget it. On the car under the hood I foam the heck out of it, close the hood and forget it. Check it a few days later a wow everything is clean and shinny. :hide:

dennist 139 #11 Posted May 17, 2011 Sorry, I thought the dude scratching his head wondering where the dirt goes was funny. It had no bad intent-just struck me as being funny.

SNYFIX 12 #13 Posted May 17, 2011 We wash many tractors after the repairing is done at the local car wash. (Or before if thier really dirty). Just carry a dry rag with you to wipe off the spark plug on the Kohlers and be prepared to blow into the spark plug boot as well. Usually the tractors will start right up then !! bo dawg 478 #14 Posted May 17, 2011 thanks everyone! Check it a few days later a wow everything is clean and shinny. Sounds like a cool product! but..where does the dirt go? Scot The cleaner would just run down off the tractor to the grown I'm sure. It might be worth a try. I would take battery cables off and try not to spray electrical. I wash 1 once and had to replace voltage regulator.
