privateer 1 #1 Posted May 16, 2011 nothing but trouble for me with the pulley drive on my c-120 over the weekend. In hindsight I should have just replaced the belt.... I needed to adjust the tensioner since the belt was slapping and starting to slip under load from the grass growing at a rediculous pace. First go to adjust the tensioner knob after some pb blaster soaking knowing the bolt might be locked up. Snap the bolt at the pin p/n 101842. I finally get the bolt free and tighten it up a bit. Low and behold the pulley -V 104974 blows to bits. I'm sure the pulley flat idler is next to go. Anyone out there have an extra front attach-a-matic for sale in decent shape? As it stands now I'm out some decent coin to replace the two pulleys and the rod adjustment bolt. Any help appreciated and thanks for reading Rich

fdsinozich 1 #5 Posted May 17, 2011 My V pulley blew out a week ago and one of our own had both pulleys with good bearings. Check with Dave. daveoman@windstream.net. He might also have the mule drive. Frank
BOWTIE 226 #6 Posted May 17, 2011 Some of the pto pulleys you can remove the seal with a little srcewdriver (BE CAREFUL) you are going to reinstall. I wash them out and repack them with grease and reinstall the seal. This only works if you catch them early. Good luck
refracman 167 #7 Posted May 17, 2011 You dont have to remove the seal on a nongreaseable bearing. Go to NAPA and get the needle adapter for your grease gun. On the pullies if you find a set pullies for the pre mule drive decks the pullies are cast and the bearings are replaceable, they fit in the mule drive and you never have to replace them again! Seriously? I never knew these were options, please tell us more. Like, what's a needle adapter, and how do you use it on one of these nongreasable bearings, and can it be used anywhere else besides the pulleys on the mule drive? And, do you have parts numbers for the cast pullies with replaceable bearings that would replace the 104974 & 104975 pullies on the mule drive for my 42" side discharge mower? And how do you replace the bearings on these? :hide:
refracman 167 #10 Posted May 18, 2011 The grease needle adaptor is availble from good auto parts outlets for about 5-7 dollars and can be used on most nongreasable bearings. Just weasle it under the seal and a couple of pumps its good to go. The pullies are part #s 6740 and 4974, bearing #4567, used on some 36" and all 42"-48" decks from 69 to 72, You can find these pullies easy enough at swap meets, and the bearing either thru toro or your local supply house. Bearings are held in place with a snap ring, very easy to replace.
tunahead72 2,551 #11 Posted May 18, 2011 Steve, Thanks very much for all this information -- I've been told for 24 years that these pulleys can't be greased, and have to be replaced with the same kind when they start screaming, it's nice to know we have other options. Thanks again!
shorts 182 #12 Posted May 19, 2011 someone like McMaster-Carr or Motion Ind. should be able to procure pulleys with replaceable bearings :WRS:
