Question about wheels

While cleaning up my spare parts pile, I was sorting wheels and came up with a question.

All of the rear wheels have lug bolt holes that look like this:

The hole is more or less flush with the rim where the head of the lug bolt tightens against it.

However, one pair of wheels looks like this:

As you can see, the hole actually projects above the surface.

Anybody know why? :thumbs: All of the first type were all taken off of Wheel Horse tractors, 1976 and newer. The odd wheels were purchased in a lot of parts from Dave's Tractor World.

I think you have a Sears rim there. :thumbs:

WH used those rims in the mid 70's, they are 2 piece wheels but are front and backs with a double thick center, I have 2 sets like them off a C-120 and a C-81 I've seen them on other Wh's, I know JD used them in the early 70's also.
