!988 wheel horse 414 I have no 1st or reverse. 2nd and 3rd work good 1st and reverse don't seem to engage. Anyone have suggestions as to what the problem is?

Thanks

Sounds like your screw holding the shifter in place is either loose or broken. Same thing recently happened to me. It is a dogpoint allenhead screw with a locknut on it. Look thru past posts in the transmission section here and you will get all the info you need to fix it. here's mine. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=23729

Irv thanks for your information. The set screw to hold the shifter in place was not the problem. When I checked the posts you suggested there was mention of a roll pin in the shifter fork. that was the problem it is now fixed and readyy to put the tractor back together.

Thanks again
