wheelhorsejoe 4 #1 Posted April 10, 2011 Well I just pickup a C-175-8 tractor, it is complete and in decent shape, but the engine has a broken rod, Would I be better off rebuilding the engine or should I re-power with a kohler k series 16 hp.
Kelly 1,028 #2 Posted April 10, 2011 Depends on how much you want to spend?? and if when it broke the rod if it broke the block? many of the KTs break at least one half of the block, single cyl. kohlers are fairly easy to find.
pfrederi 17,175 #3 Posted April 10, 2011 Agree with Kelly. I got a c175 same way broken rod, had cracked the block casing. Also had really scored the crank. Rebuild parts will be costly and you will still have an engine with a barely adequate oiling system. I would think spending the money to fix up a K series 16 would be a better investment. Cheaper on fuel also the KT17s burn some gas. That all said my C175 is running just fine on an very very used (Over 2000 hours) Series one out of a JD. She does use oil and smokes on start up but gets her chores done.
