310-8 non-regulated charging system

The ol' 310-8 speeder definitely has an issue with the un-regulated charging system. Showing 17 volts this afternoon at full throttle. Is the diode (s) a high failure part and where is the physical location of this little devil? What diode would be a good replacement? Is there a wiring diagram available to convert this hog to a rectifier/regulator charging system with proper part numbers?

I would try cleaning all youe connections including frame grounds before you get to carried away. Check the battery also. i could be shorted internally
