Forest Road 594 #1 Posted March 25, 2011 I just picked up rather clean 1973 tiller. Looks solid. BUT I have fears of blowing a seal and spewing gear oil all over my yard. How are the gear box halves sealed, RTV sealant or is it a gasket?
bk-scouter 93 #2 Posted March 25, 2011 When I did mine last year, I bought the gasket for it and used a thin layer of RTV sealant with it. So far so good. You might be OK using just the sealant. My problem is now to get a new seal on the input pulley shaft that apparently I didn't install well enough. I keep the tiller stored in a way that the hitch bracket points upward so the oil doesn't slowly leak out the seal. -BK
Lost Pup 172 #3 Posted April 10, 2011 Mine has held for a few months with no leaks. RTV only. Here is the complete rebuild thread below: Tiller Rebuilt Link
