Midmount Idler Pulley Spring

Hey on the midmount idler pulley for the tiller does the belt need to be real tight for the tiller to work or can it have a slight play in it??? I have the stock spring on it and i was wondering if i should put a shorter stronger spring on it to tighten the belt even more... My pulley is for a 1975 tiller.

I would not say real tight, mine the last time I used it, the belt kept jumping off, so I put a shorter spring on and it stopped.

So your saying just enough that it keeps the belts a little snug on the pulleys...

Yup and maybe a bit tighter, you should be able to pull on the belt with your finger and flex the spring.
