I have this older wheelhorse that i bought for the tiller ,i got to messing with it and discovered down towards the bottom of the hydro transmission there is a levere about 4 inches long that can be rotated up or down is it supposed to be a neatral engagement lever ? it isn,t in the handiest spot where it is . anyway the tractor runs good and i may use it to pull my sprayer , but having 3 8 speed tractors i,m not familar with this setup  i,m saying thanks because i know i,ll get an answer , i always do

If it's near the right front corner of the transaxle, it's for the parking brake.

It has a pawl that engages the teeth of one of the gears inside the case - very similar to an automatic car/truck transmission.

The tractor must be completely stopped before engaging the parking brake or the pawl will be damaged.
