sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted March 15, 2011 I use a $15 Harbor Fright 1/2" drive rattle gun, with a piece of 2x4 standing on end under the blade to stop it turning (mower deck standing up on its rear wheels).

tarcoleo 119 #6 Posted March 15, 2011 Impact wrench at friendly auto repair shop worked for me last year. Put nuts back with an easy-off on threads to prevent problem next year. Tom in RI
tarcoleo 119 #7 Posted April 8, 2011 The problem for me arose again with a 48" SD unit purchased recently. This time instead of going to the friendly neighborhood auto repair shop to use his impact wrench, I was able to free the difficult nuts using a robust 1-1/8 open-end wrench. The technique simulates what an impact wrench does; the impact wrench delivers many impacts to the nut before it is finally loosened. The regular wrench (with a wooden block on the blade) was hammer-struck many times until the nut loosened. It just takes a little more time than with the rattle wrench.
