WHorse1054 2 #1 Posted March 3, 2011 i am restoring 1965 1054 and i am only 16 and i don't got an lot of money and red paint is an lot of money. i have IH red paint that i got from my school (Vo-Ag school) and i have 3 gals of red primer and 3 gals red. i was wondering if i could use IH paint instead of Wheel Horse red. do you guys think it would look funny or not. or should i tone it done with some white to make it Wheel horse red thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Redbirdman 7 #5 Posted March 3, 2011 I just seen on RTV "Tractor Fever": The original Wheel Horse red was supposed to be as close to International Red as possible. And International Red was originally called "Oxblood red".........And the reason International went to RED was because the original tractors were grey......and with the invention of automobiles too many cars were hitting the grey tractors because they could not see them. A good thing I guess........cause if not, REDSQUARE would seem stupid if all our tractors were grey! well, it's better than Oxbloodsquare ed that made me dizzy :thumbs: Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Retired Wrencher 4,880 #8 Posted March 3, 2011 :thumbs: I will add my 2 cents I use Rustoleum Sunrise Red it is very close to the original color, on the 57`s series tractors. under the shift plate. Shuboxlover 474 #9 Posted March 4, 2011 A buddy of mine just restored a 1955 Farmall 400... I took one of my Wheel Horse parts over there to see how close it was to his red... I think it was EXACTLY the same, if it wasn't a direct match, it would take a VERY trained eye to determine it was different. Go with the IH red!!!!
