Digital Dashboard

Hi guys, I need some help here. I have an 87 Olds Toronado, the problem I am having is in the digital dashboard. It works fine when I start the car, but after I drive it for awhile, the dash goes out. It then flashes Electrical Problem across the viewing area. All the guages and speedometer go black. After awhile it will come back on and then go off again. I have checked the wiring and grounds to no avail. It does not affect the way the car is running, I just have no instruments. Is there a circuit breaker I cannot find? It only has 114XXX miles on it and it is a great work rig. Do these dashes have this as an inherent problem? Any help is appreciated. Pat

I would guess it is a bad chip or other active component.

If it were a not a dashboard I'd advise using a can of cold spray narrow down the problem by spraying different parts of the circuit to see if certain parts, when cooled, cause it to come alive.

In your case it is probably impossible since you need access to the circuit when it is in the failed state.

You might check with a junk yard and see if you can just swap it out for another dash.

Best of luck,

Rolf
