clintonnut 127 #1 Posted February 13, 2011 I am planning on shooting olive drab/camo paint in april and need opinions of the best camo scheme. These are the mid 1970s "MERDC" 4 color patterns: Here is #1. This is called Temperate summer. 2 shades of green, brown & black. This is what it originally had when I got it. Here is #2 This is called temperate winter. 2 shades of brown, green & black. I like this one the most. #3 This is desert scheme: This is what is on my Dad's truck: Later 3 color "NATO" camo: Also finished the front axle: Dana 60 with 4:10 gears all new bearings and seals. Have about $700 in this brute. Hope to get some good painting weather this week and get it rolling next week. Gonna go fast Charlie

Redbirdman 7 #7 Posted February 13, 2011 I vote for desert too..........but I am partial! How about just pure white? With white tires the truck will disappear all winter
chesbaycruiser 83 #8 Posted February 14, 2011 Personally, I like #4, the Later NATO version. Reminds me of the camo used on the F-4 Phantoms used in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict.

You are the one that will be driving the truck. Keep yourself Happy an don't worry what others think. Looks like the general picks are the same as what you like. I kinda like that one also. Hey wait, did you get your license? Keep yourself Happy. Good luck with the truck. Looking forward to more pictures.

clintonnut 127 #16 Posted March 8, 2011 My dad went on his yearly "cool off" vacation to the southwest for the month so I have been going over and working on the truck. I have been working a lot on it now because I got my license on Friday the 4th. This is the progress of the truck after working on it saturday from 8am to 6pm and only stopping for 5mins of lunch! Wheels are ford rims that I painted with the HVLP gun: Finished Dana 60 front: Replacement box found at the junkyard with a 1998 date code and new hoses! $15 Treated all the rockers, inside of roof and cowl with eastwoods frame coating. Awesome stuff! Part of the floor pan replaced. Then it was seam sealed and primed. Just need to sandblast the rest of the floor and prime it. Started to undercoat the firewall Doors on ready for scuff and olive drab! Engine and paint by end of the month! I am pretty proud of the progress as I am a self taught welder and I just went for it on the floor pan and it looks awesome. My dad also gets quite a bit of credit for the talents I have. The only hold up for the front axle is I need heavier 6 leaf springs to support the cummins and the originals I have are trash. Charlie
mavfreak 11 #17 Posted March 8, 2011 the floor boards look pretty good, doesn't look like to much warp-age. If any! Congratulations on the license
JonW 0 #18 Posted March 8, 2011 Charlie, Just looking at your process so far,and the attention to detail, that is going to look amazing when your done. To bad you cant find a 5.9 "600" Cummins to put in there.
clintonnut 127 #19 Posted March 9, 2011 What a 600 cummins? The one going in is a 5.9 6bt
bell 11 #20 Posted March 9, 2011 Looks GREAT bud! That thing is going to be AWESOME with a Cummins!!! I know a lot of people think they are ****, but I really like exhaust stacks (especially a single one) on a Dodge with a Cummins... Any chance it will have one?
JonW 0 #21 Posted March 9, 2011 What a 600 cummins? The one going in is a 5.9 6bt It was the last series of 5.9 Cummins. I have one in my 05. Great fuel mileage (not as good as the 1st or 2nd gen. 5.9) I get around 20 with summer fuel (17-18 with winter blend). With a simple programmable chip you can add 30-200 H.P. clintonnut 127 #22 Posted March 9, 2011 I was thinking a stack but it interferes with the military cargo cover i might put on it so i am running the 3" straight pipe and when i get more cash i will upgrade the turbo and exhaust. Charlie
clintonnut 127 #23 Posted March 18, 2011 Workin' hard! Hope to paint floors and power train by end of weekend! Dads coming hope to help me next week! Finished all undercoating on cab and sealed up underside of floors. Then tore apart the donor! Only had to remove 2 cab bolts! This is why! Not to mention that half the bolts rattled out over time from the body. This is how my dad hauled southwest sheetmetal today! Kinda funny that after I got access to the powertrain and started cleaning it up I realized why the engine torqued so much! The transfercase/transmission mounts were like JELLO! Literally you could poke it with a screwdriver and it would go almost through, almost like silicone. Charlie
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,590 #24 Posted March 18, 2011 Charlie, Any chance that new truck will make it to the show this June??
