varosd 1,185 #1 Posted February 12, 2011 It still might be too early and certainly don't want to incite the wrath of the forces of nature...but, straw vote on "Are we done with Winter yet?" Is the groundhog right? I just removed the wheel weights...wanted to ensure no rusty rims..but the ST is still hooked up. Working on the deck..new blades are in order. working on the leaf blower..carb work. Don V 5 months to the WH show!
Gerry w 2 #2 Posted February 12, 2011 Maybe in your neck of the woods, 17 degrees out today and the snow and wind is coming down hard and sideways. Winter won't be done here till the end of March, maybe.
varosd 1,185 #3 Posted February 12, 2011 Gerry, You are near the Canada border right? I did some work further west in Essex Junction back in the 90's. Send some of that snow this way!!

sgtsampay 117 #5 Posted February 12, 2011 Yeha i think old man winter is about over. We are getting on small little dusting in two days and then we are in for several days of 40s. It looks like i may get able to start working on my tractor come next month!
rmaynard 16,290 #6 Posted February 12, 2011 It still might be too early and certainly don't want to incite the wrath of the forces of nature...but, straw vote on "Are we done with Winter yet?" Is the groundhog right? I never call an end to winter until the Crocus start to poke through the ground. Then, I have pictures of Crocus blooming in the newly fallen snow too. So I'm not calling it over. March can be an unpredictable weather month, and we're not halfway through February yet. Keep the wheel weights and chains on. Brrly1 1,146 #7 Posted February 12, 2011 Personally if you think winter is over with, I think you better back up and think about all the snow storms that we have had in Febuary, March, and low and behold the month of April. Go ahead and take you tractors apart. I remember well. I think it was only about four maybe five years ago we had snow around the 23rd of April. It was around 4" to 5" but yet it was still snowing. Go ahead, I will watch and then read you post for being sorry that you tore your tractor apart and put your deck on or even possibly a tiller. Its a good thing that we do work with the all Mighty Wheel Horse tractors cause it really doesn't take long to change the back over to a different attachment.
stevasaurus 23,274 #8 Posted February 12, 2011 I'm with Brrly on this one. Plenty of time to put a deck on. I shouldn't have to mow until well into may. This is just one of those teaser February thaws...enjoy it though. I am going to get out the grill and a lawn chair tomorrow afternoon.

mowerman1193 42 #13 Posted February 13, 2011 I must be the only one that snowblows the yard then switch over to the mower deck and mow grass, then switch back to the blower for the next snowfall? And I thought everyone here was addicted to playing on the tractors.. I don't take off my snow equipment until its time to cut grass. I do however prep the deck and check over my belts etc so its not supposed to break on the first mowing.. Kevin
Jim_M 179 #14 Posted February 13, 2011 Winter's not over. We always get a week of really nice weather in February or March, then we pay for it the next week. I'll be glad to see some of this snow melt though, so I'll have room to put the snow from the next snow storm.
4xfourfun 30 #15 Posted February 13, 2011 I'm glad the snow piles are melting off too Jim. I was also running out of places to put it! The weatherman said the St Louis MO area will be up to 60 degrees this week....heat wave!

Gerry w 2 #18 Posted February 13, 2011 Gerry, You are near the Canada border right? I did some work further west in Essex Junction back in the 90's. Send some of that snow this way!! Yup! That's about an hour South West of me! It was 9 degrees here yesterday with the snow coming down HARD! I'm with folks on getting the decks ready, but we have had snow here though April, we don't plant ANYTHING till the snows off the top of the ski mtns. (June 1st or around there!) 3spaniels 0 #20 Posted February 13, 2011 It is in the +40F range right now here in Southern Minnesota. That being said along with the fact that we are in the middle of February and March is traditionally our snowiest month...my bet is on winter will be around for a while yet.

6wheeler 669 #23 Posted February 14, 2011 I'm with the other fellas. In southern Mn. yesterday 48 and sunny . I'll take it. The ice dams make pretty waterfalls . Had the grill going and plenty of frosty cold ones . But, reality is lurking around the corner. I put the snow plow that Randy(operator) dropped off on friday on the Bobcat. I hate to say it but, I'm itching to try it out. The decks are all still on the tractors,(they do not get snow duty here)and they are ready to mow. When that first blade of grass gets tall enough, it will be assaulted in the same way the first snow flake is assaulted by snowmobilers here . There is alot of winter left here, But I will take what we're having right now .
sgtsampay 117 #24 Posted February 14, 2011 Well it got out to about 40s today and I heard the birds in the terees, so i think spring is here! Now, I bet we will get soem spring storms but overall, spring is here!!
