K181 Governor Spring.....

Recommended Posts

DMK855

I am redoing a K181 that lost the tab off of the gov. shaft. While cleaning/painting parts, I noticed that the gov. spring that was on the motor originally does not match the one from a parts. motor. After looking a little more, it does not match any of the other K181's or K161's I have.

The main question is which one do I use?? The one off of the motor (painted) or the one off of the parts motor??

Thanks.

The one on the right looks "normal" to me.

Food for thought.........

A new spring is around $5 (Kohler P/N 232617-S)

It's a part that's normally overlooked when doing the rest of the engine, but they do get fatigued and less responsive after hours and years of constant "war" with the governor flyweights.
