clintonnut 126 #1 Posted February 4, 2011 My flywheel i want to put on the 953 has 5 glued on magnets it looks like there should be a sixth because there is an empty space? Should it have 5? Charlie
TT-(Moderator) 1,128 #3 Posted February 6, 2011 I checked one of mine from a 1986 M12 and it has 6 magnets. (15 amp alternator)
clintonnut 126 #4 Posted February 7, 2011 Shoot! What should i do? Take the one off the opposite side? Charlie
TT-(Moderator) 1,128 #5 Posted February 7, 2011 Why exactly do you want the Magnum flywheel in the first place? If you're doing it to reduce the horsepower-robbing drag by eliminating the cooling fins, then get rid of the alternator too. (remove all of the magnets) Either charge the battery between pulls, or use two batteries and swap them out each time. (have one charging while the other is in the tractor)
clintonnut 126 #6 Posted February 7, 2011 Well i weighs a couple more pounds for more inertia. I still want to keep something of a charging system so thats why i want to know if it will still charge with 4 magnets. Charlie
TT-(Moderator) 1,128 #7 Posted February 7, 2011 I don't know if it actually works like this, but I would guess that you'd reduce the output of the stator by (roughly) 33% by only having 4 magnets instead of 6. One of the electrical geniuses will have to tell you if that affects only the amperage, or voltage too.
