muffler cleaning

Recommended Posts

meadowfield

Hi all,

my K241 is going together nicely and I've cleaned most of the tin work in the e tank.

Does anyone have any good/bad experiences using the tank to clean the muffler?

Obviously it will work, but are there any downsides? if it's just an empty can then theres not much to worry about - if it's full of glass fibre or wirewool then soaking it in water might not be the best idea...

thanks in advance

mark

I cleaned the muffler for my 16hp Onan in my e tank and it came up really well.

I'm really happy with how well it turned out as it had a lot of surface rust. It doesn't have any packing inside though.

regards

Kym

some of the guys here will say not do this. but it works. i put mine in the wood heater for about 6 or 8 minutes. burns all carbon out. mine were not filled with fiber. or if they were , there not now.

I don't know of any factory WH that has a packing in it, they are just steel baffles, you should be good, but it will not clean the inside very good, but should do the outside just fine.

great, I'm not worried about the inside... you can't see that ! :banghead:

I just want to clean up the outside before I spray it.

thanks

I've had good luck cleaning mufflers in my e-tank. Just remember to paint or coat it soon after.
