WH854 45 #1 Posted January 12, 2011 I went down stairs and checked the cold water tank(we have a well, not city water). Sure enough no water, I checked all the switches every thing looked OK, but no water. I think to myself 10 degrees out no water So I turned off all the electric and went to bed This morning I got up, took care of the animals, fired up the wood burner, took my meds, eat breakfust, put on my outside clothes, fired up the old snow blower(walk behind 2 stage, self proppeled) and went to work!!! I got to thinking about that well pump as I was blowing about six inches of snow off the drive way. i looked around and saw the wife cleaning the side walk off. I said to her go in and call the water well company, tell them our problem. As i was comeing in from outside, the phone rings the wife answers the phone. We are just down the road, says the water well guy. They come in the basement where the cold water tank is located. No water he said.I said no water.Well i will check the pump, he had some kind of meter in his hand, turn pump on he says, the pump is running he says,he says that tells me the moter is ok,the pump must be broken or has a hole in it pumping the water back in well What now I says? He says we have to pull the pump out of well. They take the cover of of well(I had the snow cleaned of before they arrived)They pulled the pump out, (about 120 feet deep) out across the yard Yep they said you have a hole in your pump(pointing to hole) Well I said to them that pump is about 14 years old,put in a new pump I said. So they did all tole they were here a little over an hour. I said I don't have to melt any more snow in order to flush the commode Turned out a wonderful day after all!!! Redbirdman 7 #4 Posted January 13, 2011 Did that at my Dad's cabin when we were only there for 1 night and didn't want to re-winterize all of the plumbing. MY dad taught me an old trick when visiting the beach cabin in the middle of winter to go cod fishing.........if the bay was not frozen, grab a bucket of water from the bay and pour that in the commode tank to use to flush..... But if the bay was frozen just everybody pee in the commode tank then when it was full use that to flush......... but most important...A FULL TOILET will completely flush and empty the commode simply by quickly pouring about a gallon of liquid 'yellow product' into the toilet. It fills the bowl, starts the flush and pulls a vacumn sucking everything down.........................a wonderful thing! Of course, this was before 'mamma' went fishing with us. ed
