very serious question re: red square

Recommended Posts

OK, On my laptop computer I have never had that annoying flashing advertising .....you know: "YOU HAVE WON" bla bla bla,,,, NEVER!

I did not download "Flashplayer" as I understand that is one of the causes of those ads, and I did download (after Googling: "How do I stop msn ads") a fix to block most ads on msn. But here, on this site I have been getting those flashing ads up in that Google window above.......

Now, I understand it's a money maker for RedSquare......BUT I CAN'T stand that freeken flashing.................

Is there a way to stop it? :banghead:

Woohoo, it worked. Best ten bucks spent today.

Scratch that, still seeing ads. Oh well, good cause anyway.

I know, I just had one start talking to me which was a first. My volume was up after I looked at a video, was startling to me to say the least...

If you use Firefox as a browser,

download the add on

FLASHBLOCK

from the menu "Tools >Add Ons > Get Add Ons"

the search on the term flashblock and install it to the browser.

If you do choose to view the flash movie, just click on the little F icon that replaces the movie and it will play.

I use Firefox with Adblockplus (free). I don't think I've ever seen any ads on this site except for all the spam people put in the signatures field which seems to be getting worse lately. If I could block the signatures from displaying the pages would load in half the time. http://adblockplus.org/en/ This may resolve your problem. If not it may be one of my other Firefox add-ons.

Actually Redsquare doesnt collect a dime from the Ads you see here. The Forumer folks who own a whole pile of forums like this are the ones makin the $$ off any ad's you see here.

Mike..........

Support members should not be seeing ads any longer. I had to apply more funds to the ad-removal.

edit: and as Mike said, we don't see any revenue from the ads.

Wooo, sorry I did not mean to open a can'o worms........

I thought I might have downloaded a virus or something, but I see now how this all works.

I did think Redsquare earned from the ads, not the other way around! :ROTF:

Just another reason to be "supporter" :banghead:

 RedSquare........

The owner of the Forum would be charging us if not for those adds. They do suck but it keeps RS free for now.

Sorry to bring this back up to the front, but I installed "flash Block" when this started, and I thought it was the cat's meow. Let me say that I understand clicking on the "F" makes things work. It seems though that my computer slowed down to half speed, especially when downloading onto Photobucket. I also had trouble with the server bringing up RS and other web sites quickly if at all. I have since uninstalled it, the computer is back up to the speed I am used to. I did like how it blocked things, but it seemed to not let go when I wanted it to and everything seems to go through it.

Just my 2 cents...anyone else notice this???

Steve

I am on my work computer so therefore I HAVE NOT downloaded the "flash Block" and I am having the same sorts of problems with slower loading of Red Square -- And all of this seemed to have started with those damn "you have won" stuff -- Also starting recently something on Red Square 'ticks off' the MicroTrend "virsus/bad stuff on this site" software that IT has on my computer -- Damn, I just got another one of those 'you have won' audio messages while writing this reply

It is really not that annoying to me so I don't care if it flashes. But I was wondering, how can we all be the 100,000th visitor? Oh, I suppose we all win and Jim gets the laptops :ROTF: . He already won 4  do you think he will have a laptop giveaway? :banghead: Pat
