Wheel Horse Emblem Stolen by KIA!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I had taped a show off cable and was fast forwarding through the commercials when outta the corner of my eye I said HOLD THE PHONE...... THAT WAS THE WHEEL HORSE EMBLEM THAT JUST FLEW BY!!!! :ROTF: So I backed up the DVR and watched again and paused it at the right spot and took a pic with my cell phone camera. I made contact today with Ed Cole (Originally a Wheel Horse engineer and now a TORO engineer) and told him the story. He was interested and asked for me to send him the screen shot. He replied a few hours later and said he was pushing it through to the legal department at TORO at there request. He doesn't think they are going to do much of anything about it as the Wheel Horse brand is moth balled and unfortunately not known well enough for people to confuse it with the 2011 KIA Sorento that the emblem was used in. He also sent me the official JPEG of the registered Wheel Horse emblem to compare the two. KIA is using the emblem during there description of the powertrain in there cars. It breaks my heart to realise that every day that passes Wheel Horse fades deeper into history and will someday will only be known by the Redsquare family. It also means that a re-surgence of the brand also gets further and further from possible and that TORO would have to re-introduce it as a new brand and hope to build a good reputation. :banghead:

I'm guessing that there isn't enough similarity for them to even bother with it.

I don't think they're aiming to use it as an emblem on their vehicles either.

Be careful with the slang words.

And besides Kia is a Korean company.

I doubt if Toro could do anything about it anyways, foreign companies usually don't have to adhere to American copyright laws - they don't have to necessary comply with our federal regulations and laws. I could tell you a story how Mitsubishi stole my company's proprietary information, and got away with it because they are not an American company.

Yep that is a shame <_< Doc, But there is a bunch of difference as far as a copy right goes as that one has spokes and turned the other way. :hide:

Didn't Case IH do that recently to good effect with the STEIGER brand that they acquired? Not sure if they always carried the logo after '84. I remember digging spuds with these things out in the desert - very rugged.

WheelHorse is also a tough brand with value or it wouldn't have the following that still exists. Hope Toro gets the hint. :hide::ROTF:

Has Ed Cole, the Toro engineer, heard any rumors or got any insight for us - or is that place to big for the left hand to know what's up with the right? [forgive the hijack]

So just to go slightly off on a tangent. Tony/anyone..... would it be acceptable to perhaps copy that Official :banghead: Emblem to use on our W/horses, along with the Letter Type face ?. I would like to 'Cast In' these details when I get a chance to produce some Wheel Weights. As well as produce a Steering Wheel Boss.

I was told by a person in Toro's legal department that as long as it is for your own personal use and/or you have no intention of making money from it or because of it, it was allowed.

It's not a comfortable subject for some of our members who are reproducing parts and decals without legal consent. :banghead:
