mrc 727 #1 Posted January 3, 2011 hello all, after seeing russ's (saltywright) diesel repowered 417 at the enfield ct. meet and greet last fall i am considering a similar conversion. my concern is the pto. russ does not have a pto on that machine. the diesel engine has a 1" diameter 2 3/4" long shaft with a 1/4'' keyway. i believe wheelhorses have a 1 1/8" shaft that is 3 25/32" long. not sure of the keyway size. i need some help so i can convert to diesel AND have a pto. any help/advice is appreciated. thank you mike in mass. TT-(Moderator) 1,127 #2 Posted January 3, 2011 Very simple -- Use the pieces from the Briggs & Stratton or K161/181 Kohler powered tractors. If the PTO end of the crankshaft is too short, but center drilled & tapped, an extension can be added for additional support. The inner bearing race for the PTO pulley should be supported by at least half it's length. The more the better though.
