Getting Ready for My Big Night

Don't forget "Toys for Tots" if you see a place for that. The Marines handle this and this is a fantastic program also. I usually half fill one of their boxes with goodies...plus I like shopping for the toys. It is the easiest shopping I know. Like Randy, I also help the bell ringers...so important what they do. That is what it is all about.

Merry Christmas

Steve, terrific suggestion. They had a piece on the 6:00 news tonight here in New Hampshire about how the Toys for Tots program is (or more accurately, isn't) doing this year. Their warehouse where they gather everything and distribute it is almost empty, probably because of the tough economy...it was enough to bring tears to this man's eyes. This week's trek to the store will include something to give to that organization, for sure!

Thanks Duff...you can buy a lot of toys for not too much money...I usually drop about $100 and for that (and don't forget kids come at all ages) I'll buy the rings you have to stack in order (I can never get that on the first try) , chess, checkers, candy land, some very cute stuffed animals, crayons and coloring books, some good reading books. You don't have to buy a $60. Barbie, and I do like to go kind of educational. A football, basketball...take a friend and go buy some kids some toys for Christmas. I probably have more fun doing this then I should, but I always thought that part of Christmas was for kids. :)

P.S. you don't have to wrap them either...just give from the heart.

Just a note about Toys for Tots.

I always contribute to our local agencies and shelters after I found that gifts donated to Toys for Tots do not get distributed locally. If you want your toys to go to local kids, give to a local organization.

But...give. No matter to whom you give, there are a lot of kids out there that need your help at Christmas this year. If it's only a couple of bucks. Give up that pack of smokes or Whooper at Burger King and donate a toy instead.

Bob, I don't know how they do things in Maryland, but here in New Hampshire the toys do stay local. The Harley dealership just down the street has teamed up with the Marine Corps this year for Toys for Tots and the gifts are staying right here in the Upper Valley. I guess maybe in the cities they have to spread things around a little more (makes sense to me)...... :)

There were so many complaints here last year. Maybe they have changed as a result.
