daemon2525 5 #1 Posted November 23, 2010 Just wanted to start a thread to discuss some things about our chat room. Feel free to add anything that you want. I am usually on the computer every night anyway and have taken to holding the chat room open whenever I can. However, as I am ususally the only one in the room and do not sit and stare at the blank screen for hours, I will enter the room and then go on about my business and check in every once in a while. I have noticed that some folks will enter the room and say HI, and if they do not get an immediate reply, then they will leave the room. Please try and hang on for a couple of minutes if you want to chat. I do understand that if you join the room and see that I am the only one in there and you were looking for someone else, or don't like to chat with me, then that is cool also. I was just posting this for those that might not understand how it works. Or you can just wait until Thursday, it seems to have picked up quite a lot! stevebo-(Moderator) 8,411 #3 Posted November 23, 2010 I think it is best to simply throw up a post stating when you are in there. That usually attracts most people.
rmaynard 15,964 #4 Posted November 23, 2010 Many of the chat room users are regulars. If you don't know who you are chatting with, it's a little intimidating. You feel like the new kid in class. That was my experience when I first joined RedSquare. Now that I know many of you personally, and have met some of you face to face, it is much easier to use the room. So if you are new to "chat", don't be discouraged or feel intimidated. Like anything else, the more you are there, the more you will enjoy it. One word of advice though, be relevant. You won't get responses if everyone else is talking about how to put a 20HP Onan on an RJ, and you want to talk about your cat. Bob
mavfreak 11 #5 Posted November 23, 2010 he have been on but I only really go there when I see a post that someone is there. My problem is its always when the kids are running around and its close to bed time with the wife stressed cause I'm on here and not helping any. So I usually pop in say hi then all hell breaks lose and I got to go.
racinfool40 202 #6 Posted November 23, 2010 I agree with rmaynard I was a little intimidated at 1st Then I meet some of the guys at a meet & greet and have talked to real good people here...and now I just jump in. If your new to the chat room grab a chair and have some fun. Say hey let us know were your from..Got a question throw it out there someone will try to help you out or point you in the right direction. Topics vary and there will be a few different conversations going at once..Heck last Thursday we all learned what mikesrj did for a living and I'll say was pretty interesting!! JUMP IN AND HAVE SOME FUN!!!!
stevasaurus 23,107 #7 Posted November 23, 2010 All I would add is when I am in there and I don't know the name of the person/s in there...I ask. Knowing the first name of someone makes it much easier to communicate. Like was stated, there can be much more then 1 chat going on at the same time. Have fun.
rmaynard 15,964 #8 Posted November 23, 2010 ..Heck last Thursday we all learned what mikesrj did for a living and I'll say was pretty interesting!! You might know what he told you, but do you REALLY know what he does?...Hmmm? ...he takes long trips out of the country just to drink beer. :)

daemon2525 5 #12 Posted November 24, 2010 I'll be there for a little while. Yeah, I know I missed some folks, sorry. I can't get this damn thing to beep when someone joins. I should be able to do that.
daemon2525 5 #13 Posted November 24, 2010 In the old mIRC chat program you could do more things than you can is this thing "slaps you in the face with a big trout"
rmaynard 15,964 #14 Posted November 24, 2010 What's wrong with cats? Not a thing. When I was composing, I was trying to think what to put in there that had nothing to do with tractors, and one of my three cats jumped onto my keyboard. I had my word.
