He Don't Even Have a Drivers License and...

Just thought I would share this story with you all.

My oldest son at the age of 9 ( he is 14 now ) came to his mother and I and said he didn't want no gifts for birthdays etc any more and wanted money cause he was going to buy a truck. The whole family kind of said well ok but thinking yea right..Well he did it....

First off when he was 13 his uncle gave him a old run down Ford F150 that was very rusted and needed lots of work..My son put a little money and time with my help of coarse and got the old ford running and brakes working. He said I don't want this truck so I helped him sell it on Craigslist last summer. He really wanted a Dodge with the cummins in it but he found a very nice older Dodge he decided to settle for.

I am really surprised he saved his money for so long and at such a young age but he did it and he stole this truck too. Has a brand new built 318 with manual trans. They did a good job doing it and didn't skimp with cheap parts. Almost new everything while it was apart ( clutch, water pump etc )..Has Brand new 33" tires with new alum. wheels.

The Body is pretty solid but has its fair share of dents, I will be teaching him how to do body work and we will paint it together this next summer.

These pictures are of the day he brought it home ( I drove it home of coarse ) back in the summer. He has been taking it out in the field and practicing driving and getting used to the clutch and learning to back up etc. Doing really well at it too..I was a little worried as it was a standard trans but he has it down in just a couple tries..

Ok I will get off the soap box now and show the pictures. The one is of him and little brother..Sister was camera shy I guess..

very nice! reminds me of my first truck. i had a 84 ford bronco with a rebuild 351 windsor, full headers, 4 barrel edelbrock, cammed so it could barely idle. 33" tires all around it was a sweet ride. my buddy got a chevy scottsdale at the same time and we used to think we were so cool tooling around in our big trucks. ahh the good days of high school. had to sell it cause 10 mpg wasn't doing me much good on a high schoolers budget but still probably my favorite truck. Thats awesome that he saved like that, more than i could do at that age!

That is a good looking truck much better than the old ford he had when I was there.

That's a very nice truck, and it's refreshing to see someone so young willing to save for something they want.

Thanks Everyone for the comments. I showed him this post and he read the replies with a big grin on his face. He is pretty proud of his accomplishment. I just hope he respects the fact that its hard to save for something and that it has taught him to take care of it.
