SP543 0 #1 Posted November 1, 2010 My PTO on my WH is not engaging. I go to engage it and the engine looses spark, so i know it it something with the wiring that causes this. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Thanks
C-Series14 15 #2 Posted November 1, 2010 What tractor is this on? Sounds like the seat safety switch is bad or not engaged...
JimD 3,345 #3 Posted November 1, 2010 It could be the pto safety switch.

rmaynard 14,909 #7 Posted November 1, 2010 You have two safety interlocks on the C-141. One under the seat and one on the PTO. Sounds like you have a wire in the wrong place, or your PTO switch is shorting the B+ to ground when actuated, causing the coil to lose it's 12 volts. Don1977 604 #8 Posted November 1, 2010 I don't think the seat switch has anything to do with it, if it was running until he engaged the PTO. Could be the PTO Switch but I don't see how, if the PTO switch was bad the tractor wouldn't start. Do you have electric PTO's on these tractors?
daemon2525 5 #9 Posted November 1, 2010 It very well could be the seat switch. I hate to admit it but i REPLACED an electric PTO on a JD thinking that it was bad. I was trying to engage the PTO while standing beside the tractor. You have to be sitting in the seat!! LOL
TT-(Moderator) 1,128 #10 Posted November 1, 2010 The operator presence (seat) switch and one of the two PTO interlock switches work together - usually in conjunction with a relay. If the operator leaves the seat when the PTO is engaged, the ignition power circuit is "killed". (broken on battery ignition models or grounded on magneto ignition models) The other PTO interlock switch - along with the DCL neutral or clutch switch - completes the starter relay (solenoid) trigger circuit only when the PTO is disengaged. rueger-99 0 #13 Posted November 1, 2010 When the PTO is engaged the PTO switch is opened and the ignition circuit runs through the seat switch, which is wired in parallel to the PTO switch. Bypass the seat switch and you should be good to go.
