1046

I recently picked up a 1046 without an engine. I was told that it takes a deep oil pan. And I have been told it takes the shallow oil pan. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks Ken.

Ken I'd say it takes the deep oil pan because the hood is raised at the front where it hinges to the frame. Where as the 1045 was a shallow pan and the hood is not raised at the front where the hood hinges to the frame. I'm sure you'll get positive info more then my guess...

It uses the same shallow pan engine as the 1965 1055/1075, which is exactly why the 1046 was produced - to use up the left-over engines from the previous year.

The only difference was that the engines were mounted to a steel riser plate designed to position the crankshaft centerline at the same height as the large-pan 1056 engine so the same sheetmetal could be used.

Aside from the slightly different engine, the riser plate, the numbers on the ID tag, and the decal on the belt guard, they are a 1056.
