Crow Horse 8 #1 Posted October 10, 2010 The cargo rack project never died. Rather, it got pushed to the back of the my long list of projects.... Now that I'm facing another potential layoff, I want to get it completed and powder coated before the hammer drops.... I made some changes from my original design and cut some corners to expedite it's completion. I still need to weld in a couple of additional braces, do some grinding, cap the end of the tube mount and drill for another hitch pin.... The entire unit is comprised of 3 parts: 2" receiver axle mount (purchased on E-Bay), 2" bent support arm w/ receiver tube and the rack..... I'll take more pics when it's completed..... Rideawaysenior 25 #11 Posted October 10, 2010 Boy, I need to get a rack like that for my wife. (PAUSE) It would look great on her (PAUSE) wait for it, 520 H.
stevasaurus 22,273 #12 Posted October 10, 2010 Crow...it really is a nice rack...can see the welds etc. quality. I was wondering why it was so high until I saw the pic of the rack with the trailer. That first picture is a calendar shot...great colors. On the far side....how often can you say "nice rack" on a tractor web site? :USA:
Crow Horse 8 #13 Posted October 10, 2010 Thanks Steve.... Using the trailer required the rack to be mounted high which is a compromise. The terrain that the old horse runs on is everything but flat and I'll have to see if runing up an incline creates any interference between the rack and trailer. On level ground there's about 8" of clearance. Fortunately, the pics don't show with clarity the weld quality. My home welder is anything but consistent. One weld will come out picture perfect and the next one will have issues. Even with it's shortcomings, I feel lucky just to have one...... The fall colors have just past peak and it's gorgeous still. We're really lucky to call this slice of heaven ours........ The trailer in the pics is one I found at a junk shop locally. Cost me $15, a little paint, plywood, and 2 tires I already had from a previous project. Not too shabby....... On the far side....how often can you say "nice rack" on a tractor web site? whtractor/whistling2.gif Gotta love the Far Side........
stevasaurus 22,273 #15 Posted October 10, 2010 Thanks Crow...for those that don't know, the Far Side is a comic strip of epic, amazing proportions. Crow...I have a collection of 10 years of the calendars plus some paperback bools...cows, snake dorfs etc. We may have the same since of humor. :USA:
stevasaurus 22,273 #16 Posted October 10, 2010 nice rack! Hi Heath.... :)
Crow Horse 8 #17 Posted October 10, 2010 Sounds like we do have the same sense of humor. Perhaps a bit twisted, but I still enjoy skimming through my Far Side books as well as Bloom County/Outland books. I still laugh when reading them till my gut hurts........ Gotta love Bill The Cat......
jimbotelho 1 #18 Posted October 10, 2010 pretty neat you can carry the carrier and still use the hitch it seems one needs a little experience welding and a little ingenuity to make a univesal hitch
