Why You Make Your Passwords Long

Have you ever wondered how long it takes an attacker to try all possible pass-words of five lowercase letters from a-z? Well, there are only 265, or about 11 million total passwords to guess during a brute force search. With the sophisticated password cracker programs, this isn

Great information and very interesting Terry...thanks :USA:

I would add that you should change them every so often. One to six months. :)

Wow, never thought I'd see either of those two words on a tractor forum. Better find a thermodynamics forum real quick to see if they're talking about tractors....

I am taking online classes with IVY TECH, and they (just this fall) had everyone change their passwords.

Had to have lower, upper case, and numbers with some symbols.

I work on an Air Force base so I got more passwords than some folks have tractors! Some are changed every 30 days, some every 60 days, etc...When you change them, they can't have ANY of the same letters as the last one, some can't be close to the last 5, and some have to be so wacky that it is only recognized by aliens or a drunk :)

Last I checked, I have 12 different passwords, 2 ID cards with encrypted technology, 1 line badge with a code, and a headache everytime I wake up in the morning...

Mike,

I work for an aerospace company and I have about 15 passwords. Luckily I can sync a few of the passwords, but most I can not - and then they expire at different times. We have smart badge technology here, but we haven't incorporated it yet.

They are even putting all our tech orders on the server so when you go out to fix a plane, you take a laptop with you. It is progress i guess and ease of maintenance but it will be interesting when the server crashes...can't work! :)
