Working the horse & other brands...

All-

Sorry all the machines are not red :) Here is the first step in my quest to build a country barn in the backyard. I need to install about 150-175 foot of a gravel driveway around the back side of the property. At the top I plan on making a landing to park the landscape trailer and stack the firewood. I am in no way a stone worker but is does not look too bad for a beginner. I plan on going a few courses higher then spreading the topsoil and planing shrubs.

I have to say you are right in the look I am going for. I have another question for those of you who may be able to help. I have a decent grade going down the hill. I have 12 foot wide commercial grade weed block that I will put down then I need to add a base. The choices are process 3/4, 1 inch etc -not sure or if I can find asphalt millings? I want to finish it up with 3/4 black rock to match the kids rubber mulch. Anyone here have experience in installing a steep grade gravel driveway?

Around here we call 2B modified. After it's down and leveled spray a little water to make damp and roll it and it will be like concrete when it dries.

Is that the same thing as process ? If so, what size 1/2 inch, 3/4 or larger?

Hey Steve. Crusher run or rubble is what we call it around here. There are different grades of it of course. Normally I use the mix of number 2 stone/stone dust and it works well. If your looking for it to pack down good I would go with the mix of number one stone. The stone is smaller with more stone dust. I did 2 driveways this summer with that mix, one was my neighbor's. I put 6-7"s on it on top of the paper and wetted it down, hit it with a plate compacter and now his wife's high heel's don't even leave a mark in it. Smaller stone will pack better. :) Kevin

Got a little more done today. Went and picked up some railroad ties and shrubs. Spread the topsoil and covered it with weedblock. I plan on planting the shrubs where they are in the pics and then mulch that side of the railroad ties to the rock wall. The other side (inside the ties) will get a nice base of process and gravel. This will end up being the area that I split the firewood and stack it on the opposite side just outside the rail road ties. I still have a few more courses of stone on the wall and then onto the road...

Well today my brother Jim and I got to work on laying down the recycled process using the horses and the Terramite. The Terramite is the loader machine, the C195 is on hauling duty with the cart and the 520HC with our custom 3 point hitches is on spreading duty. Hope you enjoy the videos...
