520 hydro, help me please

Hi. I am new to the 520 hydro and this site. Let me start out by saying you guys rock! I just aquired a 520 hydro, 1997 i think, and need some help. it will not back up. Sometimes it will creep a little, others not at all. I am going to change the fluid and filter since i dont know when that was done last. What next? Please use simple terms. Also, what kind of fluid for the trans? I am brand new at this. Thanks in advance. dw.

Are you aware you have to push down on Hydro lever and then pull back to go into reverse? Just a thought.

Yep. I've gotten that far. It either creeps or doesn't move once the lever is in reverse. Another question I thought of. Where is the drain for the hydro?

Just took the cam plate apart and found that the center bolt was all gumed up from years of mowing. Cleaned it out, backs up like new.
