My new stable ...

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I have not posted in a while as I have been in the process of moving over the past few months. I moved my 10+ tractors over to mom's house for a few weeks. I closed on my house (sold) a week ago Monday and the wife and kids headed to the in law's house. I had to work so I stayed on my boat (homeless) for a week. I just closed on my new house in New Milford CT this past Monday. I went from a 1/3 acre lot to just under 2 acres. Good thing I have the 520 HC with 60 inch deck. I mowed today for the first time and it was FUN ! The new house is great however I do not have a stable for the horses here so I had to go to TSC and bought 2 12 x 20 shelterlogic portable garages. I should be able to get the tractors in those until I can get the money together to build a proper shop/barn. I will get some pictures up soon.

I wanted to thank Fireman and Ken B for the help in moving me in and helping me move the heard from my old place to my mom's house.

I don't envy you. It's never easy to move, but once you get it all together, things will be a lot better.

I never thought that 2 acres was much until I had to mow it every week.

Time to get a building party together. As soon as you have the where-with-all to buy your building materials, organize another meet and greet. You'll have the new stable in no time.

Congrats on the new crib Steve. Are you gonna be painting tractors in those vinyl sheds? I know that the wind can whip up the sides of mine and I bet trying to paint in em would be a pain.

Mike,

The painting will have to go on hold for a while until I get the $$ to build my "dream shop". I really want to build a barn but I am not sure if I want to do a pole barn or stick built? If anyone have pros and cons of either that would be great. Thanks-

I like the looks of a stick-built barn. However, if time and money are a factor (and they almost always are), a pole building is the way to go. They go up quick and come in many shapes, sizes and styles.

Steve,

We have been really pleased with dad's new pole barn. We put OSB on the walls due to price and durability. We went to a local steel business and bought some factory seconds for our ceiling. We blew in R-30 to the ceiling. The walls have spray foam insulation and then rolled insulation over the top of that. When it is 90 degrees out we never seem to get over 75 degrees in the shop (keeping the doors closed of course). Winter time is great and the over head heater keeps things nice in there and doesn't run very often.

Of course there are things that we would have done differently now that we are done but for the most part we are very satisfied with the results. Dad blew his budget on his barn but would do it all over again now that this one is done. No regrets at all!

Steve,

My buddy at work lives there, not sure what section but the town would only approve stick built for zoning and permits....good luck!

Did the chevy make it to new milford or did you have to get your dad's ford to tow it over.

Steve, glad to hear all worked out for you. Moving is always a chore.

Don't know if you remember my red 65 GS that was painted in a tent in the driveway. IMO it can be done effectively.

Congrats Steve! I am glad to hear you finally got into the new place, you have been telling me for a while about it and I am glad everything is finally situated. If you need another helping hand I am always here for ya. I will probably be going to TSC tomorrow and if I am in the area I'll give you a call and check out the new place. :)

Congrats on the new home Steve. My temporary Shelterlogic 12x 24 is coming up on year 5. It's not great but a lot better than nothing!
