TT-(Moderator) 1,129 #8 Posted August 8, 2010 Interesting... What year did Kohler stop using the starter/generator with the belt drive? Somewhere around 1986 (just not on Wheel Horses) The last Wheel Horses I can think of would be the 1968 models. In case you aren't aware, the tractor pictured above has a Briggs & Stratton engine. SAM58 30 #9 Posted August 8, 2010 In case you aren't aware, the tractor pictured above has a Briggs & Stratton engine. I could not tell by the pictures, is it the position of the carb that gives it away? thanks fot the info.

MikesRJ 552 #11 Posted August 23, 2010 I couldn't resit this one, Briggs and all. I brought this home a week ago, thanks to help from RMaynard (thank you for the pickup and partial transport Bob). The first order if business was to pull that crappy-looking pipe off the machine. More pics: 1971 Wheel Horse 800 Automatic - 1-0450 This one is already earmarked as my wife's "new" machine (for tugging carts around the yard), just as soon as it gets restored to its former glory. She's already picked out the shade of red she wants and the rearing-horse graphics she wants airbrushed into the hood sides. Women, go figure! Perhaps I should get Terry to make me a set of hood decals that say "Alicia's Horse" instead of "Wheel Horse"? Quick Assessment: Everything is there, engine runs but needs attention in the fuel system (fuel pump and carburetor rebuilds needed, both kits are on the way), front headlight lens is flawless and is the old chrome horse head style, Borg-Warner electric Clutch works, hub caps are pretty rough but workable, tranny is sound but has a leaking axle seal, hydro is strong and without leaks, paint is rough but without too much pitting in any of the metal, some minor adjustments/repairs needed on the hydro/brake pedal linkages, tires are in good condition with little checking, rims need media blasting and repaint, the seat is toast but I have another three-piece model in the shed which needs me to make covers for it. Other than that it is a great candidate for a total restore. Does anyone have a copy of the 800 Automatic Parts Manual? I have an excellent PDF copy (read that flawless) of the owners manual as a trade for a parts manual.
