I just repacked my trailer hubs and tightened the spindle nut hand tight and got the cotter pin in, tires track straight, when rotated, but I do notice about 1/8" of play on the hub, is this acceptable? it is the same on both sides.

I always tighten the nut until I can't turn the wheel. Then I back it off until the wheel turns free. I do this about 3 times. It makes certain that the bearings are fully seated. Cotter pin at closest hole. You should not have any noticeable play.

thanks have not driven it since replacing bearings and races, so I will take off the bearing buddies and do this, before I do, don't want to ruin the new bearings
