AHHHHH i hate craigslist sometime

Recommended Posts

JUSS10

so there was a 1257 listed on craigslist yesterday for $75 with two sets of tires, chains and weights. got ahold of the seller and we agreed to pick it up friday or saturday and for me to call him today at noon and work out a time. he doesn't answer today so i email and he gets back to me. "sorry i sold it."

i shoot him an email back saying we had agreed to do the deal this weekend because he told be i couldn't come before friday. then he tells me well sometimes people back out. whats that suppose to mean? yeah buyers back out but sellers to turn and sell to someone else? :D

craigslist. love and hate it all at the same time. how many other people have had sellers do this to them?

Another buyer probably offered more money. I've gotten several that way. It tends to increase your chances of getting the item when there are tons of people replying to the ad. Being first often doesn't mean you'll close the deal. You can still get a good bargain and most sellers appreciate it when you let them know it's under priced. Just my 2 cents.

Justin I called a guy 12 min after he listed a Cub for $20. He said I could pick it up the next day at 6pm. His wife sold it to some one else... He said "get over it"... Never the less I told him to %$#^ off... Some people are just that way... If I tell you it yours, I meen it yours!

I agree with you Gene.

Justin,

There was a time in this country when a man's word was his bond. It's a shame that those days are gone.

Sorry you lost the deal, but as my late mother use to tell me, "everything happens for a reason".

Maybe there's a better deal around the corner.

Bob

I went to see a wh for 350.00 and when I got there he went up to 500.00 , he said someone told him it was worth more money, that was a year ago, I see it up for sale once in a while all different prices, and each time PRICE IS FIRM, at least most people are true to there word, and we just have to sift through the sh#theads of the world, mike

I had just made a deal a few days ago for a disc harrow, cultivator and moldboard plow all for $200. They reneged for whatever reason. And yes it can piss ya off.

As DMK855 said not just Craigslist. I bid on a couple things on Flebay and the  parts were ten miles from me. Some one offered him a high price and he ended the listing... Nothing is written in stone...

Consider this scenario: you found a painting in your deceased grand parents home while cleaning it out and listed it for $10 on Craigslist and agreed to sell it to a caller. Minutes later you find out it's worth $100,000. Do you "honor your word" or pay for your kids collage education? Even though it's an extreme example the amount shouldn't matter; most people will choose family first and go for the higher amount(especially in this economy).

My father taught me at a young age how valuable a handshake was and a mans word. I have never gone back on either.

Actually no as I don't really sell anything on Craigslist. I've purchased items but have never closed a deal until I've seen the item in person so nobody has backed out.

How about when you finalize a CL deal, only to get a return call form the seller telling you that he has been offered more and if you would like to up your offer....... its happen to me twice.

I just retort with "if you wanted a bidding war your should have put it up in F'n Ebay."

I had the same type of thing happen on CL. There was a 600 series wheel horse painted like a JD tractor, blown motor, called the guy and worked out a price, Told me to get it in two days but call before driving the 2 1/2hrs. to get it. Long seory short, no answer, no email, etc. Never heard back from him.

I was taught a man is only as good as his word, if I say I'm going to purchase it, I will. And if I say it's sold, it is. Because it's MY integrity, my word. (And if I was the person who thought I had purchased the painting, possibly knowing it's true worth, then I would just want the person selling it to give me the chace to buy it FIRST at a more reasonable price.) However, if I said sold at $10.00, then it's sold. Not like I had it before, right?

I listed some non tractor parts on a web site and got a lot of responses. They were told there place in line and made arrangements with the first in line.I had one person cuss me because he offered more and I refused because he was not first in line.I had another person tell me I HAD to sell it him because he had been running a wanted ad.....I placed an ad to sell I did not go looking for evert Tom,**** and Harry that wanted this paticular part.

I sell like I would like to be sold to!

I hate it when this happens. It has happened a few times to me. It's always who can get there first with the most $$ with most sellers.

Happened to me twice in two weeks trying to buy my first wheel horse ( already had a 211-3 but it isn't a GT ). The second one got me really upset. I went from so psyched to so bummed to fast. It was a 2003 315-8 with a 42" SD with power flo bagger in nice shape. It was a B/O ad on CL. The woman emailed me during the day that we had a deal. Got home from work to find an email that her BF sold it before she had a chance to tell him about me. Real nice huh? I searched the whole country with craigslook for the past month and nobody is selling one. WTF -over

While slightly off topic be aware that I've noticed a lag in the Craigslook data so if you want the most current data that site may not work for you. On several occasions I've seen items appear on Craigslist and not show up on Craigslook for an hour or more after it was listed. As you know when looking for Wheel Horses that kind of delay diminishes your chances of getting it a lot.
