truckin88 104 #1 Posted July 18, 2010 guys, my dad just gave me a onan pro 5000e generator. It is an onan 14hp horizontal engine. It has hardly hours but is about 10-12 years old. Was my grandmothers, then my dad's not one sued it. He had it serviced a year ago and they ran a tank of gas through it. I took the battery off and used the pull start. If I shoot starting fluid in the carb it turns over once runs for 5 minutes and that is ti. The carb is getting fuel. I emptied the bowl, there was junk I cleaned it out (3x's...till the fuel stayed clean). Still same symptoms...gave the carb a good but quick cleaning. Any ideas?? Forest Road 594 #2 Posted July 21, 2010 Were the fuel lines replaced? The old black rubber type tend to rot from the inside. And unfortunately it is possible that the needle is swollen from the ethanol. I run my generator everytime I getto the cabin.Luckily the electric start kicks ass. truckin88 104 #3 Posted July 24, 2010 they were not replaced, but the carb is getting fuel, it fills the bowl. I replaced the spark plug today, cleaned the carb again, no junk really inside it. It has electric start, so if I jump it from a WH it turns over one (with starter fluid), since the battery is dead. Same thing happens on pull start.
Rideawaysenior 25 #4 Posted July 28, 2010 The needle and high speed jet could be clogges in the carb. The bowl will fill but it can't co anywhere else of the jets are blocked. I'll bet thats what your issue is especially after you noticed junk in the bowl. I'd pull the carb, pull the jet needles use some spray carb cleaner and compressed air to blow out the passages. I'd also replace the fuel lines too.
