mavfreak 11 #26 Posted July 18, 2010 Ken quick update. That shelby says GT500KR. I guess its supposed to be like the KR's from the late sixes. I know this was supposed to be about the new camaro so I have a question about them. What engine is in them The corvette engine or something different. I remember a few years ago they had a few camaros and firebirds that had vett motors in them. I really liked the anniversary firebird
Docwheelhorse 2,689 #27 Posted July 19, 2010 Motor is a 6.2 liter (375 cubic inch for you old school guys) that puts out 426 HP... I don't know if its a souped up truck motor or a de-tuned Vette engine... I would have to guess its the truck motor with a better cam etc... With a good driver its suppose to pull a 12.2 in the 1/4... If I was driving it would pull a 30 in the 1/4 because the first three gears would be up in smoke!!! I still can't convince my wife that I NEED one bad... I also tried to sell my entire fleet of Wheel Horses and goodies for $18,000 to a good friend of mine and hes still laughing... Man that would of given me HALF of the price.... Well in 2030 when its 20 years old and has 200K on the clock I will be able to buy it then... Tony

Tony With todays technology with the newer cars almost anyone can pull off a good time at the strip, just push the old traction control button and you won't have too worry as much about goin up in smoke.

I remember a few years ago they had a few camaros and firebirds that had vett motors in them. I really liked the anniversary firebird I looked at a GT500KR on the show room floor, luved it, bad to the bone indeed. That is until I saw it was priced at a smooth 80 grand. If yer neighbor has one get a ride. Growing up my next door neighbor had a 68 GT 500 KR. It was the nasiest car I ever rode in. Black with gold stripes, 427 with two fours, 4 speed 13:1 comp. I can still remember it and the delicous noise it made like it was only yesterday. He still has it and its still mint.
Ken B 3,166 #31 Posted July 20, 2010 I'll be stick'n with my 231 with a hair drier GN Vin I remember vividly back in the day when the GN's first hit the street. We did a lot of street racing in Danbury, they were tough to beat if you didn't know what to do. The secret was you needed to have absolute traction for any hope of beating one. If you went up in any type of smoke off the line you were smoked because the GN didn't have the torque to go crazy off the line (especially with some aftermaket rear tires) and then once that turbo kicked in it was bye bye. While working at the local Chevy dealer a GN was traded in, it wouldn't pass emissions. I test drove it and this GN was an animal off the line, sideways, the whole nine yds. I got back to the shop and pulled the cat and it was gutted. Put a new one in, put it on the sniffer and it passed, test drove it and no more sideways off the line! Back then us guys with the older muscle cars didn't like GN's too much, only because they made a lot of cars with some serious horsepower look very very bad. I would love to see and drive in yours someday, its a rare sight to see one now. Very nice well balanced machine for sure.
Docwheelhorse 2,689 #32 Posted July 20, 2010 Well Vin (and everybody else...), when I get SERIOUS I have my 1971 Nova SS with the the 350 small block/TH350 auto/3.73 posi to restore in my garage which is parked next to my 1970 Nova RS 307 small block/3 speed floor shift/3.55 peg leg also looking for a restore (327 small block and Saginaw 4 speed in garage for transplant). Then there is my 1974 Nova SS clone with a 350 small block and TH350/3.08 peg leg.... it sits rotting to death at my parents (long story) that I suppose might be savable with ALOT of love. Then I have my Great Uncles 1977 Caprice Classic Aerocoupe he left me (250 straight six special order with TH350 and aero package) and finally my 1984 Chevy K20 pickup from a local fire department---it was there forrestry vehicle and has a 292 straight six and granny gear four speed. Yah I know WHY am I playing with these little red tractors---one word MONEY... they are cheap and fn to restore. If I had 25-30K per vehicle I could do any of the ones above... linen beige 14 #33 Posted July 20, 2010 427 with two fours, He still has it and its still mint. The '68 GT500KR had a 428 with a single 4V. If he does have a truly mint one, he's sitting on a gold mine.

He has the original motor still, on a stand. It has a 427 side oiler motor in it now, installed many yrs. ago with 2 4's, or 3 2's. Don't quite remember which but its all tucked under the hood and looks all original till you fire it up. Much nastier than the original 428. Nicest and straightest one I've ever seen. Docwheelhorse 2,689 #36 Posted July 20, 2010 THANKS KEN!!! That is a cool ride... do you have any idea where it is now? Tony
Ken B 3,166 #37 Posted July 20, 2010 My father in law said the person that bought it lived on Long Island. It was running 10.30's at over 130 in the early to mid 1970's running a 427 with 2 4's on a tunnel ram, thru an M20 (M20 has a better first gear ratio than an M21 or M22 260 versus 220, if I remember correctly) 4 speed with 4.88's. Pretty impressive for the times, especially considering the old man was bangin gears WITHOUT a rev limiter and no nitrous. Built from top to bottom and driven by my father in law.
