Seen quite a few of them on the streets around here, they do look sharp. Specially the weird shade of blue with the black stripe kit.

I have that same feeling when the guy down the street gets out his 2009 shelby mustang. 500hp going down the road is just one of the most awsome sounds ever and he doesn't even open it up.:D :D

Just remember, Tony.......

Thanks to the Bowtie Boys' inability to handle their finances, you actually own a small part of that Camaro.

I'd say you have the right to take it for a spin!

I'm not sure the dealership will fall for it though.

My wife and I have both looked at the Camaros. It's possible it could be my wifes next car if the high HP one is still around. I'm glad Chevy didn't inflate the price like Dodge did with the Challenger. The Challenger is still in the high 40's without that BS markup. They did the same thing with the PT Cruiser. That high horse Camaro is a lot of bang for the buck. The dealers here have them and you see a lot of Camaros on the road. A lot more than the Challenger.

I stopped and looked at a Challenger the other day. It looked pretty snazzy as I was drivin by and it said 28,500 on the window in big white numbers. I hit the brakes on the Shelby and did a U-turn. Turns out it only had a six cylinder! It had the same hood as the hemi car right next to it. The interiors look just like a 300. Lame. And I hate sunroofs. The salesman walked out and asked if I was interested in trading my car in, Yeah right!

I'm partial to the Corvette ZR1 with a base price of only $108K. Maybe in a few years.....(or not)

I was getting my truck serviced about a month ago and the dealer had a GT500 and a Roush 427R on the floor. The Roush had the hood open and there was a supercharger under there!! The GT500 had 540 HP and the Roush was like 435 and the GT500 was the more expensive of the two. If you like Mustangs these were both sharp!

Manufacturers are getting more and more HP out of smaller engines while also increasing

the MPG. I just hope the Feds don't step in and stop the HP increases.

I would think as long as the mpg stays high then they may not do anything about it.

I hope.

I had a 84 f150 with a strait 300 six cyclinder it only had 81hp. Now I have a 96 with a strait six with 120 hp. Now I know gearing has alot to do with it. but I feel that 84 f150 would wipe the floor with this 96.

So sometimes I wonder about there hp ratings.

I just hope the Feds don't step in and stop the HP increases.

A lot of folks think the feds did that during the early '70s. They didn't limit hp, they just required a more accurate rating of how much power actually got to the wheels.

It was the insurance companies that raised rates above what most could afford, and the gas crunch that led to lower powered engines dominating the market.

For those that could afford the high premiums and high gas prices there were still plenty of high power, high performance cars on the market, such as Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Mercedes, Lamborghini, Etc.

... well in the showroom is a fire engine red...

You sure that it wasn't "Wheel Horse Red"?

Right as usual Jim. But don't forget that when the Lead got taken out of the fuel that the octane number nose-dived and so did compression ratios which did a real number on power output.

I had a 84 f150 with a strait 300 six cyclinder it only had 81hp. Now I have a 96 with a strait six with 120 hp. Now I know gearing has alot to do with it. but I feel that 84 f150 would wipe the floor with this 96.

We had an '83 with that same engine and the truck's top speed was barely over 65 mph and couldn't spin the tires unless it was icy. I always assumed it was just underpowered, but we must have had a dud.

I'm not much into pony cars, but it is really nice to see that Detriot and Dearborn are making a MODERN attempt at these things. It's amazing too what a good design and better technology can do...a new V6 Mustang/Camaro can dust an old 5.0 GT. Ahhhhhh...progress.

Tony, dump the truck. Buy the Camaro and put a hitch on it!

well your right about not going over 65 it was no speed demon. But I could pull and pull and pull even in third this 96 doesn't even want to pull itself but can lay a mean black strip and even grab second. But put 500lbs in it and it doesn't even want to crawl. The 84 would haul hay around bayling time and you wouldn't even know it was loaded by the way it ran. now like a said gearing made a big difference the 84 had a 4 speed with creeper witch I never used and the 95 has a 5 speed so that's really were the difference is

My car was built in Shelby's plant in Nevada. Its a limited production car and is one of 1700. My car is all about the handling, Shelby spent much time fine tuning the suspension on my car, its at least 1.5 inches lower than the GT 500. As far as I know The GT 500 is an SVT Ford package and they aren't actually put together at the Shelby plant. I think Shelby has a deal with Ford to allow Ford to put his name on the GT 500 too help sell them. There are a ton of GT 500's out there.

My friend owns a GT 500. When he drove my car he said that on the back roads where we live I'd smoke him even though his is super charged and mine isn't. I wasn't interested in all the maint. that comes along with a super charged car. When he saw my car has a Hurst short throw shifter in it and his don't man was he pissed! Sorry guys I know this is a Chevy post!

The Roush cars, though very fast are at the bottom as far as collectors are concerned. Though he has been a racer for a long time he doesn't have near the recognition as Carroll Shelby does hence the lower price. Knowone yet knows what a Roush car will be worth in twenty yrs from now as his Mustang program is fairly new, so most guys opt for the surer thing.

If I'm just cruisng on the highway I can get 25 mpg no problem. I have no idea about top speed in 5th gear, however, I do know that fourth gear is still pulling hard at 120 with room yet before it hits redline and then there is still 5th gear.

Okay Fellas.... we know what the rules are here... CHEVY's and NY YANKEES related responses only please..... :D

Anyways... I read a magazine article (which mag I don't remember :D ) and they ran the meanest version you can get from the FACTORY of the Challenger, Mustang and Camaro out on the salt flats and the Camaro turned itself off somewhere around 180 because of the tires. I doubt that when you drop the Mustang into fifth that it has 50--60 mph+ of pull left in her!

Don't get me wrong Tony, I like my Chevy's, I worked in the garage at a Chevy dealship for more than ten yrs so I'm not particularily a Ford guy. I've owned a ton of muscle cars and to be quite honest my 69 Charger was the nastiest. I don't have any pics of it, only video. I only wish the Dodge boys didn't so royally screw up the new Charger when they first reintroduced it, a 4 dr.? Cmon! I'm not sure what my Shelby would max out at as I don't have the advantage of the salt flats in my back yard, but I'd say 150-160 is easily within reach. The article you refer to is from Popular Mechaincs, the Camaro maxed out at 174.4mph because they say it hit its aerodynamic barrier, the Shelbly maxed out at 184.7mph because it reached its redline.

I originally wanted the new Camaro, a few things stopped me from getting one.

The first barrier I encountered at the time was availability. The only thing I could find were six cylinders which just wasn't gonna happen, and when a V-8 car was located the price gouging was out of this world.

The final nail in the coffin for me getting a Camaro was its size! After I measured how wide the car was there was no way it was going too fit in my garage! Anyone who has seen my garage knows one won't fit in there but I can squeeze the Shelby in there. The wife wasn't to happy we couldn't buy a Camaro, she is still pissed at me for selling our old 78 350 4 speed Z-28. Here is a pic of that car and my 69 SS (incredibly nasty) just too prove I'm a Chevy guy! By the way, I'm a huge Yankee fan! :D

ken that chevelle is nice! My wife would like the carmo. She had a firebird that was that body stile. We have been looking for another one for her but she wants a firebird not a TA. Hard to find what she is looking for.

I on the other hand have always been a ford guy. I have had a thing for mavericks ( mavfreak) LOL. but I have always had a passion for any performance car.

I would own just about anything because I have worked on cars my whole life and there all equally pieces of junk in my eyes
