MikesRJ 552 #1 Posted July 8, 2010 Ok, here goes. I must be losing it. When you look at the back of the Schnake Recoil its got a throw-out type gear on the back of the recoil as pictures below (if someone knows the nomenclature for that thingy, please fill me in). On the end of the crankshaft, you install the rope start, a lock washer then a long nut. The part I'm not getting is how the toothed thingy on the back of the recoil engages the long nut on the end of the crankshaft. Is there a part missing, or am I missing the right part on the end of the crankshaft.
clintonnut 126 #2 Posted July 8, 2010 Mike, You have 2 different types of schnacke. I personally would stick to the throwout gear because it lasts longer. You need a mirror image of that on the end of your crankshaft. I have a couple of these geared nuts. What size is your crankshaft thread? Charlie
MikesRJ 552 #3 Posted July 8, 2010 Threads on end of Crankshaft is 7/16"-20. Found my copy of the K-90 Manual, in order to find the crankshaft thread size, which contains the breakdown for the Schnake Recoil. I didn't realize it contained the Schnake. The part I need is: 220169 - is the "Member, Nut Driven" Oh, and the nomenclature for the "thingy" is (part #: 220228) called an "Axle, w/Pin and clutch - Assembly" Do you have one of these Charlie? If so let me know via PM. Schnake Recoil - Starter

MikesRJ 552 #8 Posted July 16, 2010 Thanks to Charlie and Joe Papke, new (to me) Schnake Recoil is complete, fully restored, and ready to install on the RJ. When received the recoil had cotton rope. Charlie supplied the crankshaft nut, Joe Papke supplied the NOS S/S Pull Cable and NOS Pull Handle. Thank you fellows.
