C161 Hydro transmission - Where is the release?

Recommended Posts

rodco

My C161 won't start and I could not push it because of the Hydro Transmission.

There is a lable on the fender that says to turn a valve. I cannot find any valve.

The only bolt on the tranny that looks like it could be the one is too close to the tractor frame to turn.

WHere is this located? Does anyone have a photo from a manual?

Thanks

Robert

That valve is next to push decal on pump, points forward and takes a flathead screwdriver, sometimes are very tight,Rick

The push valve on my C161 has a 5/16" square head on it instead of a slot for a flat screwdriver.

Not all models have tow (bypass) valves. What are the three tractors?

82 C-175, a 89 520, and I figured out the 518. It has the 700 series pump in it so it has no tow valve correct?

If it is the sticker that says it takes the 5/16" open end wrench and 1 turn counter clockwise to push, it is very hard to locate. looks more like square stock than a bolt head. I was looking for a 5/16" bolt head, like to have never found it. If it is this, it will be in front of the tire and behind the front of the fender and pointing toward the front of the tractor. Would be at about 10 o'clock on the tire. ( left tire as sitting on the tractor) All of this was on my C-145 with sunstrand hydro.

Some Briggs & Stratton opposed twin parts are still available through dealers. What do you need?
