Bye-Bye Mercury

Recommended Posts

As most probably already knows, Ford has killed off Mercury. I found this today showing some all-time Mercury TV commercials. Jill Wagner and Farrah Fawcett.

My wife still talks about the "73" Cougar she had way back.

I had a "76" Mercury Capri with a V-6 and a manual tranny that was wicked fast. Black with Crager SS rims, man was I cool( at least I thought so :D ). I'm not sure that my Capri was actually a Mercury product but rather a car made by another manufacturer with Mercury emblems stuck on it. Kinda like the Chevy Aveo is really a Daewoo.

Sparky,

Your '76 Capri was made in Europe. I also had a '76 Capri, 2.8 V-6 automatic. These were made by Ford of Europe.

I had my mothers old 1974 mercury montera station wagon. It had a 460 police intercepter motor in it. The back floor would fold up and it had a magnetic checkerboard with two seats. We played all the time on family road camping trips. (made a great place for a keg later on also). :USA: I rebuilt it with my father when I was 17. Party wagon! :D With the seats folded down, it was bigger than a twin bed. (nuff said.)

I had a 1960 Comet that I was driving around in the early 1980's. It was one of the first "compacts". She was a tank and turned a lot of heads, being 20+ years old already. Got 22 mpg with that little 6 banger also. :D

You know I heard that and my first thought was that it's probably going to also kill the little old lady that has that Comet with like 550,000 miles.... Rachel Veitch. If you've never seen the story... just google that name.
