Pulling/Pushing against Immovable object

Hello,

Puddlejumper posted this about putting on a new drive belt but I have read this immovable object thing before too

So I put on the twenty nine started the tractor clutched put in gear. drove it around 5minutes noticed a definite improvement So I hooked it to a immoveable object and let it set and dig for 30 seconds and it has shifted fine every since and does not slip when in gear.

What is the point of this? Does it braize or stretch the belt? Should I do this with my new belt?
